Sometimes, the data is not accessible, so you have to ask.

Presentation: Rachel Dissell, journalist at The Plain Dealer, will present on her experiences writing public records requests to the city of Cleveland and state of Ohio, followed by an informal Q and A.

Afterwards, we’ll have space and time to go into breakout groups based on interests (rta/transit, public records request, How to find data, or your own idea) to brainstorm projects, talk about data & work on projects.

In other news:

RTA released an API of vehicles’ real-time locations!

Interested to delve more into the data and using RTA’s data to improve service and make it easier for fellow Clevelanders to use the RTA, analyze RTA buses if they arrive on schedule, measure coverage and frequency, or any other ideas with the data?

(see https://github.com/luqmaan/awesome-transit for some ideas).

Bring your project ideas and suggestions. Is Open Cleveland for you?

If you have an idea of a project that can help improve a local government or have developed a civic app?

If you’re a local govt official or employee, share your experiences with data sharing in your workplace and find out how you can share the data that’s available to you and promote open data policies there.

So, come join developers, designers, data geeks, civic leaders, bureaucrats, journalists, organizers, idea-makers, and anyone else who is interested learning about our brigade, civic technology, and open data.

Programming experience is not necessary!

A laptop is encouraged but not required. Open Cleveland is a Code For America Brigade. To learn more about us, visit http://www.opencleveland.org
