Meet the candidates:

What does it mean that OCWiC is an ACM-W Professional Chapter? It means that OCWiC is an official chapter of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the premiere global computing society, founded in 1947 to advance computing as a science. Professional chapters of ACM’s Committee on Women in Computing (ACM-W) serve to increase recruitment and retention of women in computing fields at the professional and university level. An ACM-W chapter offers professionals activities and projects that aim to improve the working and learning environments for women in computing.

What does an ACM-W Professional Chapter President do? The chapter President is the chairman of the board, and has the overall responsibility for developing chapter programs, for ensuring that plans and assignments are carried out, and for seeing that the chapter fulfills its obligations to the Association. The President should be familiar with the policies and procedures of the Association, with the chapter’s bylaws, and with the duties of all the other chapter officers and committee chairpersons.

What does an ACM-W Professional Chapter Vice President do? The chapter Vice President should be prepared to assume the office of President or temporarily act in that position at any time. The Vice President should be familiar with the duties and responsibilities of the President, and of the other elected officers and committee chairpersons. In most cases, the Vice President is responsible for overseeing the activities and progress of the various committee and chapter programs.

What does an ACM-W Professional Chapter Treasurer do? The chapter’s financial management and operation are of great importance to the Association. The chapter Treasurer is responsible for the fiscal operation and reporting of the chapter, and of all committees and programs established by the chapter.
